What I did absolutely ADORE about America was the amazing variety and availability of gorgeous, superbly fresh and tasty Mexican food. I'm almost ready to believe I was Mexican in a previous life. Unfortunately, Mexican food has lost most of it's oomph and wow factor on it's way to Australia - all the places I've been to have bland, boring beans and processed, stale food. Each Mexican eatery I went to in America (based on some research done though guide books and the internet) served wonderfully vibrant and fresh flavours. I'm going to pop a few more photos up soon of other treats we ate.
The first place we tried was Border Grill in Santa Monica. My boyfriend had chicken tacos, corn tamales (wow - these are just amazing! How have I never eaten one of these on my life before?) and seafood ceviche.
All of the Mexican restaurants provided huge quantities of complimentary warmed corn chips and salsa. We went all out and ordered an enormous tub of fresh guacamole too. Also, as we'd come at Happy Hour, it was $3 Margaritas!

Have you tried Trippy Taco in Smith St Collingwood? It's cheap and cheerful vegetarian/vegan Mexican food, and their hot sauce is HOT!

Ooh, I can't wait to see more of your USA posts! I'm currently a bit over a month into a possibly-4-month travel holiday with at least another month to go in the US, but this time around I'm sticking to the East Coast. Sadly good Mexican is less easy to find here than on the West Coast!
But aren't tamales grand? So envious of the ceviche, too!
Hi Joyce - no I haven't tried that place - thanks so much for the tip, will definitely give it a go!
Hannah - lucky you, I'm super envious of your lovely long holiday. I'm sure the east coast has it's own food strengths so I'm hoping to head that way next time around.
